20/09/2005 Archived Entry: "Can blogging be spiritual?"

Category: Missions

Marc, a blogger from the Netherlands recently shared the following links about The spirituality of blogging.  First, he links to TallSkinnyKiwi who has a blog entry of the same name, listing the 10 reasons why blogging is a spiritual discipline.

On the other side of the coin, Marc also links to Si Johnston who lists 5 Perils of Blogging.  Most of the perils seem to relate to blogging becoming too much of a life-focus in itself.

No doubt blogging is a tricky thing.  I think it's an excellent way to stay in touch, to converse with people in our high speed society, even to disciple to a certain extent.

At the same time, there's only so much you can say about ministry when the people you minister to may be reading it (as we talked about in one of our past newsletters).  Then, depending on who's reading, everyone expects something different.  Too devotional, not personal enough.  Too much about family, not enough about ministry.  Too general, not specific enough.  Posts are too long.  Posts are too short.  You write too often, you don't write enough.

Still, with all the pitfalls and challenges, I hope to see more missionary bloggers out there.  Perhaps it's another way to share the vision and give a realistic perspective of God's miracles around the world, from a distance.
