Hawkers in Mexico

After reading Tim’s list of what he saw for sale on the road in the middle of a traffic jam in Nairobi, Kenya, I decided to keep my eyes open in Mexico.  Here are top 12 things that we saw on our most recent trip, that were being sold to people at stoplights and

intersections:

  • Nuts
  • Phone cards
  • Gloves
  • Hand towels
  • Lollipops
  • Car mats
  • Chocolates
  • Window shades
  • Marshmallows
  • Umbrellas
  • Cigarettes
  • Batman costumes
  • Mexicans show amazing ingenuity when it comes to creating jobs out of thin air.  The evidence is the hundreds and thousands of vendors you see, men women and children.  The problem is that these people often aren’t making enough, and they have no benefits, no job security, and little hope of getting out of the rut.  Please pray for the people of Mexico.

Hey Jim. Yesterday, I saw a lady selling plastic bags at the intersection…one at a time. Little white plastic bags.

I found this information really interesting. You mentioned several treats to eat. Mmm! Making me hungry!
