We’re Trapped in Vegas

I know, you’re really hoping for an exciting story, including busted cell phones, missing passports, and a dead cat or two (I’m talking about April 2010, which, if you want to re-live the experience, is here: part 1, part 2, part 3 and part 4).

This time, my main concern is trying to get out of Las Vegas.

Actually, all we wanted to do was drive through.  We weren’t even planning to stay in Las Vegas.

In fact, we made it out of town, and started into the desert, for about an hour… when the van overheated.

At first we thought maybe we had just been pushing too hard.  After all, the forecast was 42C/108F.  But it didn’t cool down again.

Thank the Lord, I got out of the van and instantly waved down a nice man with a cell phone.  I called a tow truck.

To make a long story short, a nice tow truck driver came in about an hour, and we were soon on our way… to Las Vegas.

Our van is now at the mechanics (I imagine they’ll check it out in the morning), and we found a hotel to stay in, and even had supper.

I know, not very exciting.  But it could have been much more exciting… and this time, I’m thankful it wasn’t! 😉

So, here we are… the mechanic wasn’t very optimistic about our chances of getting out of here tomorrow… or maybe even the next day… but we’re hoping we can get out as soon as possible.

The sad part of the story is that we’re missing time that we had planned with friends, though Lord willing we’ll still be able to see them.  Oh, and of course the expense.  Anyone want to guess how much all this will end up costing us?  (No, I’m not taking bets.  I don’t care if I am in Vegas.)

But God knows best, and we’re thankful that we’re safe and sound and even able to talk to you. 🙂

We’ll try to let you know what happens when we can.  Meanwhile – it’s been a long day, and I’m ready for a bit of a rest.

Good night.
