Bimbo and Bombo

My arm is a little sore, but otherwise I came out unscathed.

Yesterday was day 1 (of 5) of the kids’ club in Jesús María, Ixtapaluca.  I would say it was a "Vacation" Bible Club, but most of the kids are still in school.  Well, sort of.  At this time of year, school is little more than filling time before the end of the year – Friday.

There was a good turn-out yesterday, although I haven’t heard the final count from Marta.  This time around, we actually have classes for youth and adults too.

My big job this time is puppets.  And let me tell you, I have a whole new respect for puppeteers.  Other than a brief fill-in one time, it’s something I’ve never done.  It went all right – but let’s just say I hope I can come a little more prepared today!

There we are, below.  The teacher is Elva.  The orange puppet is Bombo, operated by our distinguished pastor Ismael.  The puppet on your right is Bimbo.  That’s … I’m behind that one.

Bombo and Bimbo (and the teacher)

A little cultural background… Bimbo is actually a large baked goods company here in Mexico.  We have Bimbo bread in our fridge.  Actually, Bimbo, which was started in Mexico in 1945, is now the world’s largest baking company.

They have a mascot, a cute fluffy white bear.  They also sponsor sporting events – yes, you may see a women’s soccer team with Bimbo emblazoned across their jerseys.

Anyway, I’ll be with a puppet tonight, but not Bimbo.  He’ll make an appearance on Thursday or Friday, I believe.

Thanks for your prayers for this outreach!
