Father Most Holy (Unshakable One)

Last week we were at a conference for our Camino missionaries in Mexico.  Our team was asked to lead a time of worship on the first day.  We focused on God’s attributes, particularly His holiness.

I felt like something was missing, so I found this hymn which is about 1000 years old.  It’s been translated and re-written more than once (a couple examples).

Well, I found the tune to be a little complicated to the modern ear, and since it would be new to everyone and we would probably only sing it once, I took a shot at rewriting it in a bit of a simpler form.  So here it is!

Father Most Holy, Merciful Love
Jesus Redeemer exalted above
Life-giving Spirit, Comfort and Sword
Yahweh unchanging our beautiful Lord

One perfect God, the Light of the Angels
Making alive, and calling us home
Hope of Your people, Love never failing
Triune and Holy, Unshakable One

All of Creation made by Your will
Salvation’s Designer, Your Gospel fulfil
That we may see You, Glorious Light
Worthy Creator, Angel’s Delight

One perfect God…

You are unshakable
Holy unmovable
Perfect in Unity
Holy and Beautiful

One perfect God, the Light of the Angels
Making alive, and calling us home
Hope of Your people, Love never failing
Triune and Holy, Unshakable One
