{"id":141,"date":"2005-01-20T21:42:43","date_gmt":"2005-01-21T03:42:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/?p=141"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T06:00:00","slug":"marriage-in-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/blog\/2005\/marriage-in-canada.html","title":{"rendered":"Marriage in Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of the month, our MPs go back to work. &nbsp;One of the major issues will be marriage. &nbsp;Should the current definition stand, or should it be changed? &nbsp;Should marriage still be between one man and one woman, or should it be broader?<\/p>\n<p>This is arguably one of the most important issues ever to be debated in government. &nbsp;Polls thus far show that a majority of Canadians support traditional marriage, but the government seems determined that a change needs to be made.<\/p>\n<p>How do you feel about this issue? &nbsp;It&#8217;s important that you let your elected officials know how you feel <b>now<\/b>. &nbsp;Here are some suggestions:<br \/>* Take 5 or 10 minutes right now to write a hand written letter to your MP, and to the Prime Minister. &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fotf.ca\/familyfacts\/issues\/marriage\/MAK_info.htm\">Here&#8217;s the contact info for the Prime Minister and Justice Minister<\/a>.  &nbsp;Here&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fotf.ca\/familyfacts\/takeaction\/activism101\/writeletter.html\">correct way to address a letter<\/a> to your MP or the Prime Minister. &nbsp;Don&#8217;t know who your MP is? &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.parl.gc.ca\/information\/about\/people\/house\/PostalCode.asp?Source=SM\">Find out in 30 seconds here<\/a>. &nbsp;Finally, here&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fotf.ca\/familyfacts\/issues\/marriage\/MAK_sampleletter.htm\">sample letter<\/a>.<br \/>* Pray. &nbsp;You can pray all the time, but the 29th and 30th of January are also being set aside for times of praying together (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.evangelicalfellowship.ca\/social\/marriage.asp#Pray_for_Marriage\">read more here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Less effective, but still helpful:<br \/>* Email all MPs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marriagematters.ca\/\">using this link<\/a>.<br \/>* Sign a petition. &nbsp;Paper ones are good, email ones are pointless. &nbsp;Here, however, is an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.enshrinemarriage.ca\/english\/petition.html\">online one<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, Focus on the Family has a site on marriage &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fotf.ca\/familyfacts\/takeaction\/061203.html\">visit it here<\/a>. &nbsp;You can also find out more, including the current stand of your MP, by checking the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.evangelicalfellowship.ca\/social\/marriage.asp#What_you_can_do\">Evangelical Fellowship of Canada site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Read some of the latest news headlines on the issue right <a href=\"http:\/\/news.google.ca\/news?svnum=10&#038;as_scoring=d&#038;hl=en&#038;ned=ca&#038;%3C%2FP=&#038;q=allintitle%3A+marriage+%22same+sex%22+OR+gay+location%3Acanada&#038;as_drrb=q&#038;as_qdr=m\">here<\/a>.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of the month, our MPs go back to work. &nbsp;One of the major issues will be marriage. &nbsp;Should the current definition stand, or should it be changed? &nbsp;Should marriage still be between one man and one woman, or should it be broader?
