{"id":1938,"date":"2012-10-03T18:38:05","date_gmt":"2012-10-03T23:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/blog\/?p=1938"},"modified":"2012-10-04T11:27:28","modified_gmt":"2012-10-04T16:27:28","slug":"back-in-october-2002","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/blog\/2012\/back-in-october-2002.html","title":{"rendered":"Back in October 2002&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What&#8217;s special about this week? &nbsp;Well, this Friday is actually the day.<\/p>\n<p>Friday is the 5th of October. &nbsp;<b>And 10 years earlier &#8211; this blog was started!<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The website itself was launched back in 1999, but the blog began as <i>The Cottrill Family Journal<\/i> in October 2002.<\/p>\n<p><b>So we&#8217;re going to celebrate 10 years!<\/b> &nbsp;First, I thought I&#8217;d look back at how different the world was back in October 2002. &nbsp;It&#8217;s funny . . . in some ways it doesn&#8217;t seem like that long ago. &nbsp;But in a way, it was a whole different world. &nbsp;For example&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Michael Jackson was still alive, and was inducted into the Songwriter&#8217;s Hall of Fame<\/li>\n<li>On TV, people were still watching <i>The Sopranos<\/i>, <i>Friends<\/i>, <i>Frasier<\/i>, <i>Enterprise<\/i>, <i>The Red Green Show<\/i>, and <i>Everybody Loves Raymond<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Queen Elizabeth II was touring Canada as a part of her Golden Jubilee<\/li>\n<li>The always entertaining and controversial Jean Chr\u00c3\u00a9tien was Prime Minister in Canada. &nbsp;In the USA, George W. Bush was President. &nbsp;And in Mexico, former Coca-Cola Mexico President Vincente Fox was President. &nbsp;In 2000 his election ended the 71 year reign of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI)<\/li>\n<li>In 2002, hitting the charts 25 years after his death, Elvis Presley had another hit &#8211; a remix of <i>A Little Less Conversation<\/i> with Junkie XL. &nbsp;Also hitting the charts in 2002 was <i>A Moment Like This<\/i> from Kelly Clarkson, and <i>A New Day Has Come<\/i> from Celine Dion.<\/li>\n<li>The world was still in the middle of the Harry Potter series<\/ul>\n<p>Things that hadn&#8217;t happened yet&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Iraq War<\/i>\n<li>The iPhone and iPod Touch. &nbsp;The first iPod came out in 2001.<\/li>\n<li>Facebook (launched 2004)<\/li>\n<li>YouTube (launched 2005)<\/li>\n<li>The Amazon Kindle (first one &#8211; 2007)<\/li>\n<li>Some of the biggest movie hits of all time, such as <i>The Departed<\/i> (2006), <i>The Dark Knight<\/i> (2008), the last two <i>Lord of the Rings<\/i> movies (2002, 2003), and <i>Inception<\/i> (2010)<\/li>\n<li>Books that hadn&#8217;t been written: &nbsp;<i>The Secret<\/i>, <i>The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo<\/i>, <i>The Hunger Games<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8230;Actually, as you know, a LOT of things hadn&#8217;t happened yet! &nbsp;So tomorrow I&#8217;m going to do a whirlwind tour of a few of the things that have happened right here and around the world in the last 10 years. &nbsp;Reminding us all once again &#8211; 10 years is longer than it used to be!<\/p>\n<p>And look out for another surprise or two as we look back and look forward . . .<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/images\/finding-direction-10.gif\" width=\"480\" height=\"187\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Finding direction for 10 years\"><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What&#8217;s special about this week? &nbsp;Well, this Friday is actually the day.
