{"id":685,"date":"2007-11-21T07:07:57","date_gmt":"2007-11-21T12:07:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/blog\/2007\/travelling-to-fortin-de-las-flores.html"},"modified":"2007-11-19T22:08:20","modified_gmt":"2007-11-20T03:08:20","slug":"travelling-to-fortin-de-las-flores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/blog\/2007\/travelling-to-fortin-de-las-flores.html","title":{"rendered":"Travelling to Fortin de las Flores&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we&#8217;re heading to <i>Fortin de las Flores<\/i>, a city of about 60,000 located about halfway between Puebla and the coast. &nbsp;We&#8217;re heading there for the CAMex Fellowship conference, when all the CAM folks in Mexico get together once a year.<\/p>\n<p>You may recall that last year we went, though we weren&#8217;t &quot;all there&quot; &#8211; for more you can read last year&#8217;s post <a href=\"https:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/blog\/2006\/the-conference-and-how-i-missed-it.html\">The conference (and how I missed it)<\/a> (incidentally, this is one of the most popular posts ever on this blog. &nbsp;Why is that?). &nbsp;So, this year we&#8217;re hoping to be a little more alive.<\/p>\n<p>For the curious, here&#8217;s where the city is:<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" marginheight=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps\/ms?ie=UTF8&amp;hl=en&amp;t=h&amp;om=1&amp;s=AARTsJoPr1HB2w6TeyG9YONvxr1yTc5YOg&amp;msa=0&amp;msid=100314537749728903170.00043f531aafede83eded&amp;ll=18.895893,-96.943359&amp;spn=9.34567,9.887695&amp;z=6&amp;output=embed\"><\/iframe><br \/><small><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps\/ms?ie=UTF8&amp;hl=en&amp;t=h&amp;om=1&amp;msa=0&amp;msid=100314537749728903170.00043f531aafede83eded&amp;ll=18.895893,-96.943359&amp;spn=9.34567,9.887695&amp;z=6&amp;source=embed\" style=\"color:#0000FF;text-align:left\">View Larger Map<\/a><\/small><\/center><br \/>The conference is a time of spiritual input, discussion and prayer. &nbsp;Lord willing we&#8217;ll be able to connect with some people we may work with starting next year.<\/p>\n<p>Fortin de las Flores (and our hotel) has a view of the 3rd highest mountain in North America (the highest in Mexico) &#8211; <b><a href=\"http:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=8049\">Pico de Orizaba<\/a><\/b>. &nbsp;If you zoom in on the map above you should be able to see the snow cap to the north west.<\/p>\n<p>There has been a great deal of discussion about the temperature. &nbsp;Last year we were near <i>San Juan del Rio<\/i>, and <b>there was ice on the water in the fountains when we woke up<\/b>. &nbsp;There&#8217;s little doubt this will be warmer than that. &nbsp;On the other hand, everyone from Cuernavaca is telling us it&#8217;s cold there. &nbsp;I guess it depends on your perspective!<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/weather.weatherbug.com\/Mexico\/Fortin-De-Las-Flores-weather\/local-forecast\/7-day-forecast.html?zcode=z6160\">the weather forecast<\/a>, though I&#8217;ve learned to take these with a grain of salt. &nbsp;But we&#8217;ll have a heater and warm jackets, so hopefully we&#8217;ll be ready. &nbsp;Canadians know how to dress in layers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today we&#8217;re heading to Fortin de las Flores, a city of about 60,000 located about halfway between Puebla and the coast. &nbsp;We&#8217;re heading there for the CAMex Fellowship conference, when all the CAM folks in Mexico get together once a year.
