{"id":8596,"date":"2016-12-15T14:16:57","date_gmt":"2016-12-15T20:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/blog\/?p=8596"},"modified":"2016-12-15T14:16:57","modified_gmt":"2016-12-15T20:16:57","slug":"they-will-leave-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/blog\/2016\/they-will-leave-you.html","title":{"rendered":"They will Leave You."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A word of encouragement (well, <i>I<\/i> think it&#8217;s encouraging!) from <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2gG7moz\"><i>The Trellis and the Vine<\/i><\/a> by Colin Marshall and Tony Payne:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cottrillcompass.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/goodbye-balloon-heart.png\" alt=\"Goodbye...\" width=\"201\" height=\"268\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8598\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;we must be willing to lose people from our own congregation if that is better for the growth of the gospel. We must be happy to send members off to other places so that the gospel may grow there as well. And be warned: this will happen if you take gospel growth and training seriously. If you pour your time into people, and mentor and train them, the consequence will often be that some of your best people&#8211;in whom you have invested countless hours&#8211;will leave you. They will go to the mission field. They will join a church-planting team in another part of your city. They will take a job in a different part of the country because the gospel need is so great there. They will undertake further training, perhaps at theological college or seminary.
