I hesitate<\/font> to even write this, because I imagine very few people will understand. But here goes nothin’.<\/p>\n

When we got up this morning, it was 3\u00c2\u00baC outside.<\/b> That’s 37\u00c2\u00baF. I don’t know what it was inside<\/i>, but I imagine it wouldn’t be a surprise if it was 15\u00c2\u00baC or 59\u00c2\u00baF all day long in the house.<\/p>\n

I know, I know – deal with it, right? I could be in Canada<\/i>, with temperatures well below 0\u00c2\u00baC and snow<\/i> (let me tell you, we would get a fair bit of snow here if it was rainy season instead of dry season).<\/p>\n

I’m not complaining about living in Mexico — I just love<\/i> Mexico. But as the temperatures continue to drop, there are some unique challenges.<\/p>\n

There’s no central heating in any buildings, including our house.<\/b> That means that it’s a challenge to keep warm, and keep the kids warm. In Canada you go inside and warm up – but here it’s cold inside<\/i> too, and we suspect that the lingering coughs and sniffles the kids have are related to the chilly weather. Both the kids have warm jackets now – and they can wear them to school and in<\/i> school.<\/p>\n

The teachers at Nathanael’s school asked that we send water for him at room temperature, because the water at the school was too cold<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Shari and I are still sleeping on a matress on the floor (you may remember our box spring didn’t fit up the stairs), so we’re increasingly motivated to find a solution, since the floor is a lot colder than the rest of the room.<\/p>\n

In Canada, keeping the house cooler and using space heaters is a way to save energy. Here, using space heaters uses a lot of energy, and since the houses aren’t as well sealed, they can waste a lot of energy.<\/p>\n

So believe it or not, mock if you will, deride, but the cold really is a challenge for us<\/i>. We’re concerned about our health, and concerned about not being wasteful.<\/p>\n

When it gets cold, our Mexican friends say,"Oh, but you’re used to this. You’re from Canada<\/i>". Ironically, the opposite<\/i> is true. They’re used to it, and we’re not.<\/p>\n

Now excuse me while I go stand in front of the oven.<\/p>\n
