These are the answers to the puzzles in our Nov 2003 newsletter:
1. Wise Men Word Search
You can probably find most of these words where the history of the wise men is recorded, Matthew 2:1-12.
Scoring: under 5 - you can do better! 6-10 - Good start! 11-15 - Very Good! Over 15 - Word Search Master
2. Spanish Carol Quiz
You probably noticed that a literal translation didn't always help! But here are the English titles. All of these songs are from the excellent Spanish hymnal, Celebremos Su Gloria (visit the page translated into English. Note that the translation is far from perfect!). It's interesting to note that only one or two of these songs were originally written in English. There are three other languages represented (for more information visit the Cyber Hymnal). Isn't it great that we can share so many songs across cultures?
Noche de paz - Silent Night
Santa la noche - O Holy Night
Angeles cantando están - Angels We Have Heard On High
Al rústico pesebre - Away In A Manger
Venid, fieles todos - O Come All Ye Faithful
Cristianos, hoy cantad a Dios - Good Christian Men Rejoice
Oh, pueblecito de Belén - O Little Town Of Bethlehem
3. Did you also notice ... ?
Our newsletter had other hidden messages as well. Each section started with a different letter, and if you read them in order they spelled REGALOS (except for the "You've been asking..." box). In the email version it's the first letter after the title in each section. In the paper version, each box had some letters that were in a special Christmas font. These letters spelled REGALOS in each box, first forwards then backwards. The "You've been asking..." box spelled GIFTS. The letter started with the Spanish word REGALO and ended with the English word GIFTS. Also, besides the titles there were 4 words that we in different colours - if you read down the page it said,"God gives good gifts" (see Matthew 7:11). In the email version there are capitol letters all throughout that spell the same message. Sometime we don't notice everything we have to be thankful for - why not look a little closer?
