Thinking about Short Term Missions in Mexico? (No really, it’s a great time to think about it)

This is a great time to think about – coming to Mexico in 2016! No, really – it actually is.

Join the Journey 2016 Let me put it this way. It’s nice to be prepared, isn’t it? Nice for you, nice for us, and nice for Camino Global, our mission agency. If you’re thinking of coming to Mexico for our EMERGE internship next summer, you can actually apply right now, and everyone will actually be a lot more prepared for your visit!

Or you could wait until the new year, ponder it over January, delay until February.. no, don’t do that.

And there’s another bonus. If you apply between today and the end of the year (hey, I didn’t say you couldn’t ask your Mommy first. You’ll see her over Christmas, right?), you won’t even have to pay the application fee!

Here are two great opportunities. First, get deeply involved in community centre outreach for 4, 6, or 8 weeks (your choice). If you read this blog, you know about the kinds of things we do here. There are people who need to be reached – we need your help!

Or, if you’re the unsettled type, there’s another choice. You can split 6 weeks into 3, visiting three different cities in Mexico (including the BIG ONE, of course!). You can learn a variety of ministries in a variety of quite different contexts. This is the “Journey Mexico” internship.

T-minus 13

Summer may actually start on the 21st of June, but the season of summer activities begins here in only 13 days – the 11th of June. Lord willing, our first intern (Abby!) will be arriving that day, followed on the 12th by a team of 20 from Mt Calvary Church.

It’s always nice to have graphic designers around, and we’re thankful to Samuel again for coming up with a logo for our summer, which should explain itself –

Going Viral 2015 So what are some of our goals for the summer? Well, we want to see cross-cultural relationships built for the glory of God. We want to see some major steps forward taken in the construction of the ministry centre and church meeting place in JesÃºs MarÃa. We want to serve our community, helping people in practical ways as well as giving spiritual food. We hope to reach out to those with physical and mental disabilities, and to city street kids. We hope to see the work in Las Palmas grow, as relationships are built with believers, unbelievers, and ultimately with their Lord. We want to know our God better, worship Him more completely, and serve Him in love.

We can’t do it on our own – so join us in prayer, that the Spirit will open doors and hearts, give wisdom and strength, and do what we could never do.

At the moment we would especially appreciate your prayers for the intensive time of ministry right at the beginning. Safe travels for those coming on the 11th and 12th, and then for all the activities over the next week – a soccer tournament, baking, English, and craft classes, construction, wheelchair distribution, and time spent just being with people.

May God give us all an infectious faith!

Next Summer – Come and Join Us!

Once again in 2015 we’ll be welcoming short term missionaries who are willing to come and join the excitement in Mexico City!

Camino Global has a program for anyone who wants to come. You could come for 4 weeks, starting at the end of June, or 6 weeks starting earlier in June, or even 8 weeks starting at the end of May.

Of course if you don’t quite fit in these categories, or if you want to bring your family, or team, or come at another time of year – just talk to us! You’d be amazed what might happen, and you might be amazed at how God can use you!

English? Spanish? Native? Urban? Come to Mexico!

Most summers here our team has had the pleasure of hosting interns for 4, 6, or 8 weeks. And more time and less time, but those are the official time frames for those coming for the internship program.

It has generally been a very good experience for everyone. Interns and teams allow us to do things in the community that we couldn’t otherwise. Short termers with different experiences with the Lord, and of different ages (from kids to white-haired adventurers), can reach different people that we might never reach.

Actually, at our recent anniversary service I was reminded of the impact of short term missionaries. Though many (almost all?) have been impacted by short term teams, one lady shared that she had become connected to the church almost exactly a year ago. She started coming to the events we had when the team was here from Mirror Alliance and Innisfail Baptist (Alberta, Canada).

Anyway, last year we had teams and interns from all three North American countries – Canada, the United States, and Mexico. As a matter of fact, this year FAMex (a Mexican mission agency) has teamed up with Camino Global to invite Spanish speaking interns to join us again. There’s urban ministry in Guadalajara, music, art and sports around here, and outreach to indigenous (generally non-Spanish speaking, or groups that don’t speak Spanish as a first language) peoples in other parts of Mexico.

It’s exciting the opportunities that are available!

Incidentally, I would love to see a team of native believers from Canada come down and do a two-part trip – an outreach to the community in Ixtapaluca and an outreach to a native village. Any takers? (Actually, I’ve already talked over the idea with a couple of people from FAMex, so it’s not idle talk…)

Short Term in Mexico: 2013

There are some great opportunities to serve coming up next year! The new CAM International of Canada / Camino Global brochure has come out to promote the Emerge internship program.

The program includes exposure teams (1-3 weeks), Emerge Summer Internships (4, 6, or 8 weeks), and customizable internships (2 weeks to 6 months).

Opportunities here in Mexico include sports ministry, teaching English, graphic arts and animation, martial arts, and more!
