The opportunity God is at work in the Spanish-speaking world! Almost half a billion people speak Spanish, and almost 25% of those live in the world's largest Spanish speaking country: Mexico. Reaching Mexico with the Truth means much more than touching one country. God is changing lives across the nation, and as He does so He gives them a desire to reach out to the rest of the world. A strong Mexican Church can reach Spanish speakers all over the world! They're not all where you might expect. For example: Switzerland: 105,000 Spanish speakers Canada: 180,000 Equatorial Guinea: 452,600 Israel: 50,000 Turkey: 23,175 What if in turn all those believers could reach out to the rest of the world? Mexico truly is a strategic location. And God is working there!  The Cottrills before their move to Mexico The challenge "Everybody goes to Mexico" I never thought of Mexico as an "unreached" country. With all the missionaries and teams that go to Mexico, hasn't everyone already heard the Gospel? The truth of the matter is that in proportion to the population, Mexico has almost the fewest number of full time missionaries of any Latin American country. Also, it has one of the lowest percentages of evangelicals of any Latin nation. The area in which we will be working is the middle third of Mexico. It contains one of the world's largest cities, and 70% of the country's population - about 74.5 million people. That's over 2¼ times the population of Canada. But this sprawling urban area has only a handful of evangelical churches. Help is needed if these people are ever to hear the Word of God! Where we used to live in Canada, we could have our pick of several Bible believing churches within a ten minute drive. What if there was no church anywhere close to you that taught the Word of God? What if there had been no one to tell you about God in the first place? The truth is that there are still millions of people in Mexico that have never had the Gospel explained to them in a relevant way. Believers around the world need to work side by side with the Mexican believers to reach the nation! The vision We want to be a part of what God is doing in Mexico by joining with Mexican believers and CAM International to reach this urban area for Christ. We'll be involved in "church multiplication", using evangelism and discipleship to see more new believers, more new churches, and more trained leaders. We'll be working as part of a team and using our past experience in things like drama and children's ministry. Through this work we want to see not only one area reached, but the whole nation and the world! Getting there In 2001/2002 we spent a lot of time praying and investigating to find out where God may be leading us. In the fall of 2002 we applied to CAM International, and in November we were accepted and appointed to the Mexico field. At the end of December we finished up our commitments with VTI, where we had been working for a number of years. The next step was to prepare for our ministry. Over the next few months we did further training, including seminary courses for Jim, and books to read. We also raised the funds needed to start out. Primarily we were sharing the vision for the work God is doing in Mexico! After that we moved to Cuernavaca, Mexico (just south of Mexico City) to learn Spanish. After a time of study at a university there, we continued our orientation in Mexico City until the summer of 2009. At that point, a multinational team was formed to start a new work in this less-reached area of Mexico. And that's what we're involved in now - serving the community and introducing people to Jesus! These people are involved in many ways. Some pray, some give financially, some offer encouragement or advice, some give in other ways.
