Exactly one week ago we went to get pictures taken for our visas. As a bonus, we got these pictures included.
So this is what Hannah and Nathanael look like now (± 1 week, of course). Of course it’s more of a close-up of Nathanael. We didn’t do anything special for the pictures – we were late, and had just picked Hannah up from school (she’s still wearing her uniform in the photo):
I know it’s been video-central here lately, but I thought I’d post a couple of fun videos that I didn’t make myself.
First, in honour of the last game of the World Cup today, here’s a commercial from the USA. (Andrés Cantor, featured in the commercial, is a Spanish language sports commentator in the USA, originally from Argentina.) Check out the comments on the YouTube page if you want a translation. via Pros Apologian
Next, my friend Daryl sent this amazing video of a 3 dimensional optical illusion. The setup, made in Japan, won a 2010 award for the best visual illusion of the year.
I’m (just Jim) heading to (the state of) Veracruz today with some friends from here and the summer interns from the USA. We’ll be gone for 5 days… helping out at a church tonight, visiting a Christian mission, and spending time together. Apparently, we even have our own logo/graphic for the trip. You never know what’s going to happen when you have a graphic artist along.
The interns had a "LOST" theme this summer. Hopefully we don’t get ….
The map above shows the general area where we’ll be – the city of Veracruz and north to Tuxpan de RodrÃgues Cano.
This past Saturday we hosted a Canada Day party for the community of people we know in Jesús María. The party itself was in our neighbourhood. We had a fun time – a little street hockey, a quiz, a game, lots of great food, Canadian music, friends . . . all around good.
This year was a bit unusual because the kids’ birthday parties had "Canadianish" themes too. So it’s been kind of a Canadian season.
It’s actually been three years since we last did this. The first year we were moving, and the next we were in Canada. So here’s the last Canada Day Fiesta we had.
So anyway, here’s a brief view of the party – just under 2 minutes.
On Friday Nathanael officially graduated from Kinder 3 (there are 3 years of Kinder in Mexico). His school was Jardín de Niños Elizabeth Catlett.
He actually had his last day of school yesterday, and there’s one more celebratory event at his school Friday morning.
So, in honour of Nathanael’s grad, here are some clips from the whole program. In a lot of the video Nathanael is in the far corner compared to the camera. If you want to watch in HD for a little more detail in full screen, go check out the video at YouTube. Otherwise, in most cases you should be able to find a blond kid in a white suit if you look close enough (although there are a few clips of other classes).
