Smoke detectors and the Source
A few months ago, a nice man came to our apartment to check our smoke detector to make sure everything was in order. It’s so nice to be in an apartment where people pay attention to important details like that. After all, a smoke detector is a rather important thing!
A few days ago we got a notice that it was now our responsibility to replace the batteries in our own smoke detectors. No problem. Every 6 months, right? (Have you checked yours lately?) So after forgetting about it for a couple days, I went to check. Guess what? Our smoke detector has no battery! This type doesn’t work very well without a battery. 😉
I was a little shocked. I imagine that nice man who came to check our smoke detector took out the old battery and then forgot to come back with a new one!
Shari made a comment that put it all in perspective. She said something about how it’s a good thing that we rely on God to protect us, and not our smoke detector! And you know what? She’s right. After all, there are so many things in life that we rely on. We think they’re so stable and so reliable. In the end, they’re a lot more flimsy than we think. I’m so glad we have something solid to rely on!
The moral of the story is? Trust God, and replace the battery.
