Hurricane Wilma in the news
There has to be a balance somewhere.
I’ve been watching and reading news reports about hurricane Wilma, which is currently headed for the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. I realize that each country has to report on its own. And I realize that there are a lot of tourists in this area that we should be concerned about (we’re talking tens of thousands). We should be concerned about what could happen in Florida – having friends there ourselves, we’re watching closely.
But if you’re reading news stories that are only mentioning the tourists, or news stories that seem simply curious to see what the hurricane will do, in hopes that it won’t hit Florida, then surely you’re reading something that’s lacking balance.
As the storm inches toward land in Mexico, it’s one of the most massive storms ever. And believe it or not, non-tourists (we call them Mexicans in English) actually live in this part of the Yucatan, in places like the city of Merida, Puerto Morelos, El Cuyo and Progreso. At the Prairie Missions Conference, Shari met someone planning to move to Merida as a missionary.
People in some of these areas are leaving their homes, homes they may be seeing for the last time. So please pray for everyone in these areas. See the current path of Hurricane Wilma here.
