school

For his physical education class, Nathanael had to put together an activity using “SMART goals” (goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound). So he decided to do an Ixtapaluca hike.
So, yesterday after our main meal of the day we set out to fulfill the goals. He had mapped out a route (which we ended up adjusting somewhat en route), which included climbing up to two archaeological sites on two sides of town.
I took some pictures as we went, so I thought you might enjoy this mini-tour. I’ve linked to each picture in our Photo Gallery so that you can see the full-resolution version (you will want to actually download the photo from the gallery if you want the full-res version).

Retro: Spring School Program
Ten years ago today, Hannah and Nathanael were involved in spring celebrations at their schools. The picture below shows Hannah and also David Fry (far right). Hannah was in a play, where – I think – she played a bird. Something with wings, anyway (the flowing silvery things you might see made up her wings).

Another big event ten years ago this month was the recognition service for the first Mexican leaders of the Path of Life Bible Church in Santa Barbara. You can see a (low quality) video of the event – A Very Special Sunday for Sendero de Vida!
Retro: First Day of School 2007
Ten years ago today, at 7:49am – Hannah and Nathanael were heading off to their first day of school – all in Spanish – at Colegio del Bosque in Cuernavaca. Here they are, all ready with uniforms and backpacks.

Why I like School (Nathanael)
![]() |
I want to tell you about some things that I like about school.
I like history. I like that there’s crafts. I made a lighthouse from the time of Alexander the Great. I made paper dolls of Greek soldiers.
I like that school is fun. I like math, and I like that you play games in math.
I like spelling because it’s just kind of fun and because it’s cool.
In science, I drew a picture of the Earth … I drew a picture of the sun … I made a Sun collage with pictures with suns on them. I found the pictures in a magazine. I drew a picture of Venus (and Venus is a hot place).
I made a cartoon about mining in caves on Venus. The guys were trying to run away from the volcanoes that were erupting, and they were kind of stuck, and after the volcanoes almost exploded on them they went in the caves and cooked pizza with the campfire.
Then they went to their home and asked each other if they could come over and eat pizza.
