Learning about God
This week Hannah was able to go to a kids club at our church. Today was the last day. It was a “Vacation Bible School” put on by Child Evangelism Fellowship, and the theme was Solar Express. No doubt churches all across North America have been doing the same thing!
Hannah had a great time and worked hard to finish her activities at home (she even tied for second prize at the end of the week).
As for me, I’m just about to get started on another course from Briercrest Distance Learning. I have two courses to complete before we move to Mexico. It looks like I’ll be working on a little bit of basic theology.
I have come up with a definition of “theology”. You can let me know what you think. Of course, I haven’t taken the course yet, so maybe you shouldn’t listen anyway!
Theology is…getting to know God. What do you think? I think that’s about it. Anything we’re doing to get to know God is theology. And since that’s one of the most basic purposes of life, I’m looking forward to continuing th journey.
So how have you been doing theology this week?
Yes, I had Jarritos
Back in early July I wrote this blog about bubble tea and the Mexican soft drink, Jarritos. I was responding to a blog over at Mexico Movies praising the soft drink, but I had never had it.
Well, I don’t feel quite so bad now. Jarritos was amazingly hard to find. The first time I saw it is was warm, so I decided to wait until I could find a cold one. Finally, about 2 weeks into my trip I got one at a grocery store, cold and everything. But, I guess I’m just not an orange refresco kind of guy. So I stand by my original comment on Dennis’ blog entry – it’s Coke or manzana for me! And by the way, there are some wonderful manzana (apple) varieties now. And I’m afraid the new Sour Apple Crush from Cadbury just doesn’t compare.
Yet another reason why I should move to Mexico. 😎
Sure enough – RadioShack again
Sure enough, I did get another email from Karin Chamberlain from HypeCouncil regarding RadioShack. RadioShack now has a website out, with a very appropriate URL considering my last post. So if you really want to know more about what they’re planning in Canada, visit radioshackisback.ca [Update – as you’ll see from this site, Radio Shack is gone again, as of January 2007].
Well, this is a great example of how a brief blog comment can turn into a larger conversation! But hey, anything goes at the CottrillCompass.com Family Journal. But I’ll be back – with other topics – soon!
RadioShack . . . coming back?
And then RadioShack…came back? Well, after my post about the demise of RadioShack in Canada, I got an email from Karin Chamberlain, who works in a RadioShack publicity agency. She sent along a press release, which you can actually read on RadioShack’s corporate website.
Now, if I understand the press release right (and if I don’t perhaps I’ll get another email!), RadioShack is on its way back. Andrew Resnick is now the managing director of RadioShack Canada. He’ll be in charge of expanding RadioShack into Canada! So, apparently, it will be baaaaaack…could be interesting!
I was also reminded that RadioShack has stores in Mexico (about 100 I think – yes, I even saw one, though I didn’t have time to go in!). So this just goes to show – you never know where RadioShack is going to show up…
Here’s the press release, if you’d like to have a look for yourself.
Let’s get Canadian
Here’s an interesting site, or group of sites, for those interested in history, particularly Canadian history. Northern Blue Publishing puts out the site, and about all I know about them is their name. [Edit – this company had to shut down their site. The information was moved to the Canadawiki, and that is where the links below lead.]
First we have the Today in Canadian History page. I learned that Henry Hudson first entered what is now known as Hudson Bay on this day in 1610. There’s also birthday headlines, and a quote of the day. Today’s quote comes from Jack L. Warner, a producer of movies such as Casablanca and My Fair Lady (yes, the co-founder of Warner Brothers Studios was born in London, Ontario). Jack said to Albert Einstein,”I have a theory of relatives too. Don’t hire ’em.“
Thanks to the wonders of RSS, I can show you the other page right here. You can read about Canadian Birthdays on their page, but here are the latest ones they’ve posted:
