Here’s another Hannah & Nathanael classic for you, a video taken 10 years ago this very day in Cuernavaca.
Here’s another Hannah & Nathanael classic for you, a video taken 10 years ago this very day in Cuernavaca.
As is the case in many families, school time has come again to our household.
For those who don’t know the history, Hannah and Nathanael both attended Mexican schools for a number of years. Now they are being homeschooled, although that too is a yearly decision and is not just one thing.
So to some extent we can relate to both sides – the Mexican schools with the many things that need to be purchased before classes start (you have no idea), and the reams of homework even in preschool. And the challenges of various types of homeschooling. (For you attending schools in other countries, we can’t so much relate to what you go through. But we hear enough about school in Canada to know that you have major challenges!)
Both Hannah and Nathanael are doing quite different programs, and every year there are changes. This year, I (Jim) will be doing more schooling, although Shari will still do the majority here, and both Hannah and Nathanael have other teachers/facilitators.
As I say, we’ve made a lot of changes this year, so it will take a few weeks to see how well it’s working. We all have lots to learn!
Ten years ago today, at 7:49am – Hannah and Nathanael were heading off to their first day of school – all in Spanish – at Colegio del Bosque in Cuernavaca. Here they are, all ready with uniforms and backpacks.

Today Hannah will be heading to camp, along with 8 other youth from our church. They’re going to the Word of Life camp which is north of Mexico City in the state of Querétaro.
She’ll be gone for a week, so I’m sure she would appreciate your prayers (and her parents would too!). 🙂
Do pray that this will be a good time of growth for all the youth who attend. Jim and Rod will be driving them all up with their luggage, a few hours there and a few hours back.
Last month I hit the jackpot.
For whatever reason, years ago, we lost most of our pictures and videos from 2007. Usually we’re pretty obsessive about backing up pictures, but I searched everywhere for months and was only able to find the odd file.
But, amazingly enough, I found the pictures on an old drive (which I thought I would have checked!). Which means we’re seeing pictures and video from 10 years ago that we thought was lost forever!
So, one of these is this video from ten years ago today – Hannah and Nathanael in our yard in Cuernavaca, showing off a hummingbird feeder which we had made.
Ten years ago today – Hannah and Nathanael had their first birthday party in Mexico. Considering the plethora of new bugs where we lived in Cuernavaca, it was appropriate that the theme was – bugs! Or – small creatures, anyway. I realize that neither caterpillars nor spiders are technically “bugs”. 🙂
