Breaking The Da Vinci Code
The Da Vinci Code is currently one of the top bestselling books, easily reaching the top 5 in most lists in Canada and the USA. It’s currently number 3 at amazon.com, and has sold 12 million copies worldwide. The fictional story follows a mystery and murder which reveals a 2000 year old cover-up by the church. The characters slowly uncover the truth about Jesus – a Jesus that is quite different from the one you might know.
Dan Brown’s novel may be thrilling fiction, but the claims that the book makes about Jesus and the church are based on real life debates. A new scholarship is claiming that the church has had it wrong for hundreds of years. And with millions reading this book, the questions are being brought into the mainstream.
I just finished reading Breaking The Da Vinci Code: Answers to the Questions Everybody’s Asking by Darrell L Bock, PHD. Dr Bock does a good job explaining what the issues are. He makes a great case that the Jesus of the Gospels – the God-Man who came to be our Saviour by dying on a cross and returning to life 2000 years ago – is the real Jesus, and that the Jesus of The Da Vinci Code is the counterfeit. If you’re interested in understanding the issues and investigating the facts, I suggest you grab yourself a copy of Breaking The Da Vinci Code. It’s only a brief overview, but it answers the basic questions that The Da Vinci Code may raise with you and your friends and family.
