Spiritual Discernment (countdown to launch…)
Tomorrow we’ll be starting our month-long study (Sunday and then four Tuesdays) on spiritual discernment. I would really (and I mean really) appreciate your prayers as I preach on Sunday to start this study.
I wrote a little about the overall plan in my post Diving into Discernment. Now I’m close to being “done” preparing for tomorrow. Well, give me two or three more hours.
I think one thing that makes this so difficult is that – well, besides being at the end of a very difficult week, it’s one of those things that’s complicated and simple at the same time.
Sure, there are lots of aspects we could talk about – and we will – like why it’s important, and how to develop it, and what to do when you’re dealing with error and sin. But – it reminds me of some things I’ve taught on spiritual warfare. When you boil it down, it’s the Christian life. In fact, the main things that the Bible teaches about spiritual warfare are the things it teaches about discernment. You know, like – we should pray. We should read the Bible. Things like that.
So on the one hand, it’s a lifetime of discipleship we’re trying to cram into a few studies. On the other hand – it’s the same simple things that we already know.
Anyway, do pray as we try to summarize some very challenging topics in the morning. May God grant us patience, grace, and humility.

I’m convinced that this will be a challenge, but a very important one. I, too, pray that God would grant you patience, grace and humility as this subject is taught and discussed.
