Canada’s greatest inventions
Oh sure, we all know that a Canadian discovered insulin, invented basketball (a youth pastor, I believe), created the Blackberry, and invented the telephone (of course 3 countries claim the multi-cultural AG Bell – Canada, USA and the UK). And it just makes sense that a Canadian would invent the birch bark canoe, snow blower, ski-doo (a 15 year old invented that – figures!) and goalie mask.
But did you know that Canadians also invented the spiral nail, caulking gun, electric oven and wheelchair, instant mashed potatoes (oops – not proud of that one!) pacemaker, walkie-talkie, and the zipper?
If you have access to CBC television, tonight you can watch a special – CBC.ca – The Greatest Canadian Invention. Canadians have voted on which was the greatest. If you can’t watch it, visit the link to see all 50 nominees.
By the way, have you listened to the radio lately? Guess who sent the first voice radio transmission, and made the first radio broadcast on Christmas Eve 100 years ago. That would be Canadian Reginald Fessenden.

I watched the show last nite and was truly amazed, intrigued and very entertained. I wish it was on longer. I have an invention that is registered with a supposedly reputable company in Mississauga, On. but as yet, nothing has come of is except that my pocket is lighter. What does it take to get an idea off the ground? Do you need to make a model and show it off or are there companies, people out there that make it for you? I don’t know which direction to turn to now so any help/advice that you can offer will be greatly appreciated. I went to this company about 2 years ago and because nothing has come out of it, I feel like a total idiot having just handed over thousands of dollars !!! I used to have great faith in people and businesses and that is what prompted me to sign over my retirement fund/childrens’ inheritance, but now I just feel like a complete fool. Watching shows like the Dragon’s Den and the Greatest Cndn Inventions still sparks a yearning for someone to take an interest in my idea.
Well, I appreciate you letting me vent. Look forward to hearing from you if you so desire and will look forward to more on the wonderful Canadians that form our country.
Sincerely
Sherry
