Spiritual Discernment: Index (Notes on Discernment)
This is an index of the somewhat-random posts on discernment, based on the spiritual discernment study we did here in the month of February. I’m dividing them up to give you a basic idea of how we did this over four weeks, in case anyone ever wants to try something similar.
Of course, the whole study isn’t here – just a few key thoughts.
And remember, in this case I actually started with a sermon before the four weeks, but hopefully the study more or less stands on its own.
Week 1: Why Discernment?
Why does the Bible tell us to discern? Whose responsibility is it to be discerning?
Week 2: The Skill of Discernment
How can I grow to be a discerning person? What does the Bible say about false teaching? How do I go about finding the truth for myself?

Week 3: Responding to Truth and Error
If I see a problem in my own life, I should hold fast to the good and abstain from the evil (1Thessalonians 5:21-22). But what if I think I see sin or error in someone else? Should I respond? When? How?
- Just what is “Discernment”?

Week 4: Practising Discernment
Can I recognize common errors? Do I understand how to respond in love?
And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
