Jacob’s Tests (podcast)
This is a sermon from our time in Canada earlier this year. I focused on James 1:17-27, but it’s really an introduction to the whole book.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a podcast, so here is a little bit of news about family, churches, and new outreaches.

Would anyone out there like to do some water park ministry for the Lord? In Mexico? In November?
I know, it sounds tough. But I’m serious.
Here’s the deal. Every year, the missionaries with Camino Global in Mexico have a field conference. We get together for rest, Bible teaching, worship, prayer, and collaboration.
Usually we meet in a hotel with a pool and a conference room. But this year it was all booked. So they went looking for another place – and the affordable place – you guessed it… turned out to be a water park.
But there’s another problem. We don’t have anyone to work with the children this year. (I could be wrong – but I think there was a group that was planning to come but then couldn’t…)
Often we’ve had a church group come down to run the children’s program. Actually, a group came down and helped with the kids at the conference, and then did some ministry in Ixtapaluca afterwards! What a great idea! 😉
So if there are any church groups out there interested, the conference itself is from the 25th to 28th of November. There would be the possibility of coming to do some ministry in Ixtapaluca as well, probably before the conference, if you’re interested.
And just to make sure you’re doing this for the right reasons, I have some bad news. It’s actually pretty cool in that part of Mexico in November. But then again, these are hot springs, so the water will be niiiiice. Anyone interested? Contact us here!
We’ve been having a good time and a not-so-good-time here. Maybe that’s not so unusual.
We would appreciate your prayers as we join with our friends at Path of Life Bible Church in Santa Barbara to reach out into a new neighbourhood with kids’ clubs and a special study for parents. Last week’s turn-out wasn’t great, but Shari, Julian, Malu and some from the church handed out some more flyers yesterday, so we’re hoping for better things this week. 🙂
I got to make up the questions – from easy, to normal, to hard, to very hard, to “almost impossible”. (And they were.)
One group worked particularly hard to prepare, and it showed. Congratulations to the women! (The men challenged them for a while, but eventually fell behind).
If you know Spanish, you can take a look at the questions here.
The not-so-good has been health. I’ve been sick since Thursday noon, and last night was the worst night yet. Which means I’m getting better now, right? Right?
It looks like Shari has decided to join the ranks of the sick today as well. 🙁
But we’re pushing ahead, trying to get some other outreaches up and running here, getting some Bible studies going, and of course getting Hannah and Nathanael edykated.
