He heard God speak!
This is self explanatory, but I would love to hear what you think of it after you listen. Feel free to comment!

If you’ve seen the movie End of the Spear, and haven’t seen Beyond the Gates of Splendor, you’re missing out. In fact, don’t bother with End of the Spear at all – go watch Beyond the Gates of Splendor instead.
Both of these cover one of the biggest Christian missions stories of the 20th century. The story is fascinating on all kinds of levels. End of the Spear is the movie, but Beyond the Gates of Splendor is the documentary – a documentary like you’ve never seen before. Amazing story.
Anyway, I watched it a long time ago but I’m bringing it up because it’s on sale at amazon.com right now. So you can click on over there and order it – it’s worth having in your library. Think about it, and discuss it. Did the missionaries do right or wrong in each decision? Why? What would you have done? Would you have gone to reach these people if you knew you were going to die? And forgiveness – wow. Well, just watch it.
I’ve got to stop posting about prayer requests – people actually pray and then want to know how everything went! 😉
Seriously – we appreciate your prayers. Thanks! The Sunday School class went very well. Now, we have to admit there were only 3 students – two were our kids. There was another helper from the church, and a few other people hanging around (because we basically share space with the nursery). So how many students do you need to have before it’s worthwhile?
Well, it was worthwhile, of course. The kids were into it and learned. We were blessed, and had a good chance to use our Spanish and continue developing ministry materials. And it’s a lot less nerve-racking to teach 3 students and not 50. However, I had to pop a balloon as part of the class, and that was a little traumatic. I’ll get over it.
We’re heading out to spend a few days in Texcoco, to check out the ministry there and visit with our friends Rollie and Jo Ann Smith. We’re looking forward to it, but we’re not in the "travel groove" yet, so it will be … interesting, I’m sure!
In case you’re wondering, here are the general locations of the three places we’ve visited this year. Ixtapaluca and Texcoco are the areas we’re considering moving to (probably late spring/early summer):
Good morning everyone! If you’re reading this in time, we would appreciate your prayers as Shari and I teach in the children’s Sunday School class this morning. (In Spanish – woo hoo!)
We were privileged to see a total eclipse of the moon last night in beautiful weather. I took some pictures so you could see what it looked like from here. The next total eclipse of the moon visible from this part of the world will be in December 2010. Here’s all the information you could want about last night’s eclipse of the moon, and here are a few shots from Mexico City. Thanks for the reminder from Tim.

9:06pm Some of these were taken with a different setting on the camera. On these you can see the "dark" side of the moon. Here the whole moon is more or less dark. I think the actual mid-eclipse was at 9:26pm. |

9:50pm Again with a different camera setting, a little light is starting to show. |

10:09pm The last one with the camera setting where you can see the whole moon. I didn’t use it much because I wasn’t using a tripod and it was hard to keep the camera still enough. |

He will bring justice to the poor of the people;
He will save the children of the needy,
And will break in pieces the oppressor.
They shall fear You
As long as the sun and moon endure,
Throughout all generations.
King Solomon, Psalm 72:5-5
Excuse the ambiguous title, but it seems there are loose ends all over the place here at Finding direction, so I’m going to tie a few up. Thanks to Ken for the reminder.
First, I already mentioned this but Hannah and Nathanael are fine after the fevers of the last week or two. Shari was sick but is starting to feel better. As for me… well, I’m supposed to take some drugs and talk to my doctor again in about 10 days. So I’m making as much progress toward health as is possible at the moment (I’m even writing this lying in bed – a rare tip of the hat toward recovery for me).
I mentioned Toby in the last audio post. Marilyn (his wife) emailed from Houston on the 14th to say that he’s fine! They’re playing with his meds a bit, but it sounds like he’s doing ok. So praise the Lord and thank you for your prayers!
We had a good visit with the Fry family on Sunday. In an effort to check out what’s going on in other parts of Mexico, we’ve visited with the Frys and the Williams. They were good visits, and we look forward to more, including a trip to Texcoco next week to visit the Smiths.
Meanwhile, we’re doing school – ours and the kids’. And as always we appreciate your prayers for that!
