Yay! My app told me I MUST limit my physical activity today. Nice to have an excuse to relax! 😆 (Lots of firework… https://t.co/iYFqHAYYLq2019-01-01
The surprisingly fun (and rather intense!) game of 🌳 Photosynthesis. Who knew that watching trees grow could be so… https://t.co/dfsAfl6rHy2019-01-02
10 years ago – right now – we were at Zoofari, in the state of Morelos. Zoofari, as you might guess, is a safari/zoo/petting zoo type place (Southern Ontarians, think African Lion Safari). Shari’s parents were still here, so we were doing the tourist thing with them!
So it may not be the most interesting picture, but I think it’s a good one, so I’m going with it. You can see some animals in the background, but in the foreground are most definitely two PEOPLE!
Traditionally at this time of year we’ve taken a look back at the year’s most popular – most visited – posts at Finding direction. So – I’m going to keep up with the tradition!
This was a bit of a weird year because it was split into (not equal) thirds. The first third was ministry in Ixtapaluca and preparing for our time in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The second third was travel and ministry in Canada. And the last third was coming home while Hannah stayed in Canada, and an extra whirlwind of ministry while our coworkers were (unexpectedly) in the USA for the fall.
So, I’m actually going to split up the year’s popular posts into three. The five most popular posts of the year are in bold text. Here goes…
That’s only a hint of what’s been going on this past year. Wow! We look forward to seeing God’s continued faithfulness in the unknown (to us) land of 2019. Thanks for reading!
We’ve been trying to take a semi-break over the holidays. I’ve even been able to do a little reading, finishing off a short biography of Ulrich Zwingli. Fascinating man.
In the battle where Zwingli finally lost his life, Shari’s 13th Great Grandfather became a hero, and he and his descendants were granted citizenship to Zurich (should we move?).
“12 Grapes, 12 Wishes” Selling grapes for the New Year’s tradition
Stores are busy today as people buy their food for the next parties – and alcohol, and grapes. The grapes are for a New Year’s tradition – you eat 12 grapes at the beginning of the year to receive 12 wishes.
We’ve been driven to our knees over the holidays, after the passing of Mayra Fry’s Dad on Christmas Day. If you can, please pray for the family during this time of grieving.
Of course we’re enjoying our time with Hannah, although the time is flying by way too fast! They’ve been able to see some friends, and go to a special youth group get-together. Hannah is just here for one Sunday service – tomorrow – a special service of prayer and reflection as we prepare to enter 2019.
In Mexico, the news has been about a strange helicopter crash in Puebla, that killed Puebla’s governor (Martha Érika Alonso) and several others. Investigators are trying to figure out what happened.
On a lighter note, today we enjoyed a board game that Nathanael bought with his Christmas money, called Photosynthesis. This is a game about growing trees. Yes, a very intense, competitive game about sunlight and seeds. Surprisingly fun.
Looking forward to more time to hear from the Lord and worship Him tomorrow with His people! Have a great Sunday, everyone.
Almighty, eternal and merciful God, whose Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path, open and illuminate our minds, that we may purely and perfectly understand thy Word and that our lives may be conformed to what we have rightly understood, that in nothing we may be displeasing unto thy majesty, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
On Monday I’ll be posting some of the most popular posts of the year, but I thought I would draw your attention to the “best of” page.
I hadn’t updated it for – ok, several years. So it was time! If you’re interested in the most popular posts from this blog – of all time – as well as some of my personal favourites, check out Best of Finding direction.
You can look down the list by category – things like interesting posts about Mexico, ministry glimpses, missions in general, Bible-related, and even history.
That’s over – *gulp* – 16 years worth of posts! I hope something has been helpful to somebody. 🙂
